This is our 5th annual yoga holiday
Suzanne & Gretchen are both Junior Intermediate Certified Iyenar yoga teachers.
We have a designated ‘Yoga Bure’ metres from the beach, the sounds of lapping waves a perfect backdrop to to our asana practice.
This dedicated space has wonderful sunrise and sunset views over the ocean.
Our morning and evening meditations will delight in the dawning of each new day and celebrate the vibrant colors as day changes to night. We will begin each day with a sunrise meditation, followed by fresh coconuts from which to drink; the ‘bhu’ or coconut water is full of vitality
Gretchen teaches the morning practice which is energising and designed to develop a flexible strong healthy body, preparing for the adventures and recreations available during the day.
Suzanne takes the meditations; morning, evening and restorative ‘yoga siesta’ after lunch. In the early evening she teaches yoga asana designed to improve breathing & develop understanding of pranyama.
Between yoga we eat, play, sleep & create our personal perfect tropical holiday, far away from mainstream resort Fiji.
The people of Kadavu are traditional, conservative and respectful of each other and their natural environment. With the help of the staff at Papageno eco-resort we are able to visit the local villages and explore traditional values in practical ways, weaving, dancing, partaking in and observing seasonal ceremonies including kava ceremonies. The gospel singing on Sunday morning is divine.
The vast ocean in front of Papegano eco-resort is now a marine park. Simply kayak one hundred metres, don your complimentary snorkelling gear and there is a visual phantasmagoria of coral and fishes. The marine park outside the resort hosts over 800 varieties of fish. These are pristine waters.
Birdcalls will fill the air during our early morning meditation. Being part of 350 acres of tropical paradise at a resort with eco ideals means there are a lot of birds, 68 identified species, this includes the endangered Masked Shining Parrot endemic to Kadavu.
The island is lush with plenty of spring water, in which we can indulge freely, drinking, waterfall swimming, showering. The organic gardens are bountiful too partly because of the availability of fresh clean water. Expect delicious freshly harvested vegetables and fruits and exquisite table settings.
Papageno has a large organic fruit and vegetable farm, fresh coconuts, and they catch fish from designated fishing sites, you may even catch your own. The cuisine is inspired by the local Fijian culture, fresh local fish, river ferns, fijian greens, tropical fruit and vegetables not seen in the west, the Indian cuisine also features with delicious dahls and curries. European food is available and part of the daily menu, there is a rustic bread oven with fresh bread baked daily. Early immigrants to Fiji came from all over the world.
Because the food is plentiful and so, so delicious we’ve taken an hour after lunch devoted to restorative/digestive asanas. If however you want to spend the day out, to hire a boat and explore the astrolobe reef, snorkel with manta rays, hike to the waterfall, or any other of a number of adventures or ways to spend your own time, then this hour is optional.
In the early evening we will delve into the practice of inverted asanas and postures which improve your pranyama practice, then sit and watch the colours as the sun goes down, a perfect location driven meditation.
7-9am: dynamic morning yoga class

2-3pm restorative asana
5-6pm: asana & pranyama
6pm: sunset meditation
7.30pm: delicious dinner featuring Pacific Island cusine
Free time, talk to Papageno staff about your options, kayak a short distance to the edge of the vibrant coral reef and snorkel, visit the local village and participate in a cultural exchange of your choice, walk to the local waterfall and swim in the spring waters, or simply rest, read, write your memoirs, have a massage.
